Chipmunk Crisps were made in Long Buckby in the 1970s. Chipmunk was famous for its Oxo flavour. We’ve found photos of Salt & Vinegar flavour too. We think there was a Tomato Sauce flavour. Can anyone verify that?

I remember smiths crisps were first to be produced in the late 50s – plain flavour with a little blue paper twist parcel of salt. I recall that chipmunk were the first flavoured crisps with a strong beefy flavour in the early 60s.

I almost agree I was 13 in 1960 and seem to remember having them before the bit it was 62years ago so I could easily be a couple of years out either way. However what isn’t in doubt is the fact that they were the first flavoured crisps and for me the best ever!

I remember them very well, my grandmother lived in long buckby and also worked there for many years.she kept an old milk churn on the bottom of the stairs filled with Crisps, oxo was my favourite. Happy memories,

Hi Carol, I have found an old ready salted Chipmunk package with a Christy towel offer on it and the price which was 3p but can’t date it. Can you help?

Interesting! We haven’t been able to find out much about Chipmunk crisps – but I remember a packet of ready salted crisps in our school tuck shop cost 3p in 1971 after decimalisation. (Salted peanuts were 2p.)… so I reckon early 70s

In the 1970s, large size packets of Chipmunk crisps were the only crisps sold, at the refreshment kiosks at Manchester United’s, Old Trafford stadium.

I remember tomato sauce, mint sauce & chipmunk crisps from early 60’s. We bought them from the greengrocer because they were made of potato. Later in the 60’s they were stocked in the off licence.
I’ve just had a packet of Walkers Marmite crisps & they reminded me of the Chipmunk crisps of my childhood! 😋

When I was a little kid in the late 60s I bought Chipmunk crisps from the ice cream van. Chipmunk cheese and onion had a fantastic flavour which made them my favourite.

Chipmunk certainly made Cheese and Onion flavour crisps because they were my favourite. I always got the cheese and onion flavour. Thier taste was unique and better than all the other brands. I could only get them from the Ice cream van.

I found this page when trying to prove to my other half that Chipmunk crisps were not a figment if my imagination. I reckon they were made in the 60’s as I was young when the Corona (fizzy pop) van which came up our road in Welling, Kent……….Welling was not in London then! sold these crisps too. They remain the best crisps I ever had. They definitely did cheese & onion. My sister liked salt & vinegar. We used to get 3d back on the pop bottles too. Not that we had fizzy drinks very often. Unlike today, it was a rare treat.

I was watching the film ‘80,000 Suspects’, which was made in 1963 and filmed in and around Bath. A scene with a bus had an advert on the side for Chipmunk crisps, Oxo flavour. Curiousity brought me here.

chipmunk had a depot at Thetford norfolk IN BROOKBOND OXO DEPOT , we had 3 vans run out of the depot i was one of them , oxo crisps was a huge seller the cash carrys took 100 cases at a time, it was the one best jobs i ever had ,chipmunk was taken over by golden wonder crisps we were all sacked, but 3 persons started snack foods which i was offered a job with new lorry i held the record for the highest sales ever done by one van in a week , Smiths offered me a van sales job which i did cambridgeshire my sales were so high they gave me a big target which i objected to i went back to golden wonder happy days . i was seniore salesman with chipmunk crisps. i had many friends at chipmunk,were happy days in my life.

The factory also produced hand fried puffs. They started off as light brown flat oval things about the size of a 2p coin that expanded on frying. Can’t remember what they were called.
